UNITE AGAINST HATE: The Times of Harvey Milk
The second event in the series of the Unite against Hate monthly film screenings will look at homophobia, with a screening of one of the best documentaries of the 1980s, which was produced in fictional version as last year's Oscar-winning Milk.
The Times of Harvey Milk is a gripping documentary that tells the real life story of Harvey Milk, who campaigned passionately for gay rights and was California's first openly gay elected official before his assassination in 1978.
The screening will be followed by a discussion chaired by William Crawley from BBC Northern Ireland. Panellists will include Jeff Dudgeon who was the successful plaintiff at the European Court of Human Rights at Strasbourg, Canon Charles Kenny, a member of Changing Attitude Ireland, Liam Larmour from Cara-Friend Gay and Lesbian Youth NI (GLYNI) and Ruth McCarthy, the co-ordinator of Outburst, the Queer Arts Festival in Northern Ireland.
THE TMES OF HARVEY MILK
One of the best documentaries of the 1980s (and produced in fictional version as last year’s Oscar winning Milk), The Times of Harvey Milk is a gripping documentary that not only tells the real life story of Harvey Milk but is also one of the tiny handful of films that actually changed peoples’ lives. Harvey Milk campaigned passionately for gay rights and was California's first openly gay elected official before his assassination in 1978. Telling the story of Harvey Milk’s inspirational life and untimely death, The Times of Harvey Milk is funny and exciting, tragic and yet ultimately hopeful.
