Girls on Film - Females in Contemporary Japanese Cinema
5th March 2010 - 9th March 2010

The Japan Foundation's 2010 touring film programme looks at contemporary Japanese cinema made about and, in some cases, by women. Touring to five venues during February and March, the programme is composed of works from the past few years and showcases how Japanese contemporary filmmakers, from the very established, such as the late Jun Ichikawa, to young and promising filmmakers, like Satoko Yokohama, approach the issues facing women and adolescents.
This season also includes works by female directors, reflecting the exciting trend of a marked increase in the number of female directors working in the Japanese film industry. This is a unique collection of films not to be missed!

Willie Doherty: Ghost Stories
26th March 2010 - 1st April 2010
QFT have proudly teamed up with internationally renowned visual artist Willie Doherty on a series of screenings to coincide with the return of the Ulster Museum's permanent collection featuring the exhibition of his haunting video piece, Ghost Story (2007).
This personally curated season of films expresses different areas of influence on Doherty's practice, including themes of surveillance, paranoia, the effects of the ‘Troubles', intrusions on private moments, and psychological responses to trauma. Much like the artist's own work, his chosen films will make us ask, is the audience really so distinguishable from those behind the CCTV cameras?

National Theatre Live
22nd April 2010 - 22nd April 2010

Following on from NT Live's international sell-out screenings of Phèdre with Helen Mirren, this is an exciting opportunity for Belfast audiences to see a top theatre production direct from London in an innovative and accessible new way.
The Habit of Art by Alan Bennett:
Alan Bennett's new play is as much about the theatre as it is about poetry or music. It looks at the unsettling desires of two difficult men, and at the ethics of biography. It reflects on growing old, on creativity and inspiration, and on persisting when all passion's spent: ultimately, on the habit of art.
5 STARS "Another absolute cracker, often wonderfully and sometimes filthily funny, but also deeply and unexpectedly moving." Daily Telegraph
5 STARS "Bennett the maestro returns with a multi-layered masterpiece." Independent
