Dickens 2012: Oliver Twist
Introduction by Dr Leon Litvack, Reader in Victorian Studies, School of English, Queen's University, and Dickens 2012 NI staff.
The Dickens bicentenary celebration continues at QFT with the third, and most recent, feature film adaptation of Oliver Twist. The film echoes the director Polanksi's own experience of being orphaned during the Nazi holocaust of World War II. The film is a triumph due to the writer-director collaboration of Polanksi, writer Ronald Harwood and an outstanding crew, many of whom also worked on The Pianist. And, of course, an unforgettable performance by Ben Kingsley as Fagin.
