Access Screenings

The next Access Screenings will take place in a forthcoming QFT programme.

 * We strongly advise customers to contact the QFT box office to reserve access screening headsets prior to the screening date.*

Access screenings at Queen's Film Theatre include audio enhancement, audio description and on-screen captioning.  QFT endeavours to host access screenings of its films as and when the suitable technology is made available by the film distributors.

You are strongly advised to book headsets for audio enhancement and audio description at the QFT box office in advance of the screenings as the necessary equipment is limited.  Captioning and Audio Description equipment are supported by Northern Ireland Screen and Adapt NI.

About cinema subtitles & audio description:

"It's the accessible cinema experience: SEE the dialogue! HEAR the action!"

Cinema subtitles (properly known as captions) are displayed along the bottom of the cinema screen. They include the spoken text as well as descriptions of sounds such as 'door creaks', 'footsteps approaching', 'gunshot' etc. Separately scheduled shows are required.

Cinema audio description is a recorded narration which explains - in gaps in the dialogue - what's happening on screen. It's delivered through wireless headphones - only the wearer hears the audio description soundtrack, so there is no need for separately scheduled shows. One visionally-impaired cinema-goer has likened the experience to listening to a Harry Potter audio book with all the actors voicing their own parts and with the addition of the film soundtrack - in fabulous surround sound.
